In My Mailbox(2)

I made the mistake of reading too much and finished my books early! So I'll be announcing my books for this week a little early.

Evermore by Alyson Noel

Since a horrible accident claimed the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever can see auras, hear people's thoughts, and know a person’s life story by touch. Going out of her way to shield herself from human contact to suppress her abilities has branded her as a freak at her new high school—but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste… Ever sees Damen and feels an instant recognition. She feels different when he touches her even his presence make her feel better. He is gorgeous, exotic and wealthy, and he holds many secrets. Damen is able to make things appear and disappear, he always seems to know what she’s thinking—and he’s the only one who can silence the noise and the random energy in her head.  She doesn’t know who he really is—or what he is. Damen equal parts light and darkness, and he belongs to an enchanted new world where no one ever dies.

An award-winning children's novel by acclaimed American author E. B. White, about a pig named Wilbur who is saved from being slaughtered by an intelligent spider named Charlotte.

Los Angeles is all about the sweet life: hot clubs, cute guys, designer . . . everything . Nineteen-year-old Jane Roberts can't wait to start living it up. She may be in L.A. for an internship, but Jane plans to play as hard as she works, and has enlisted her BFF Scarlett to join in the fun. When Jane and Scarlett are approached by a producer who wants them to be on his new series, a "reality version of Sex and the City ," they can hardly believe their luck. Their own show? Yes, please! Soon Jane is TV's hottest star. Fame brings more than she ever imagined possible for a girl from Santa Barbara—free designer clothes, the choicest tables at the most exclusive clubs, invites to Hollywood premieres—and she's lapping up the VIP treatment with her eclectic entourage of new pals. But those same friends who are always up for a wild night are also out for a piece of Jane's spotlight. In a city filled with people chasing after their dreams, it's not long before Jane wakes up to the reality that everyone wants something from her, and nothing is what it seems to be. L.A. Candy is a deliciously entertaining novel about what it's like to come of age in Hollywood while starring in a reality TV show, written by a girl who has experienced it all firsthand: Lauren Conrad.

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she’s made it out of the bloody arena alive, she’s still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Who do they think should pay for the unrest? Katniss. And what’s worse, President Snow has made it clear that no one else is safe either. Not Katniss’s family, not her friends, not the people of District 12. Powerful and haunting, this thrilling final installment of Suzanne Collins’s groundbreaking The Hunger Games trilogy promises to be one of the most talked about books of the year.

THE FAMILIARS are the magical animal companions to a wizard or witch. When three young wizards-in-training get kidnapped by the evil queen of the land, it is up to their familiars to go a dangerous journey to rescue them. You'll meet Aldwyn, an orphan alley cat pretending to have telekinesis; Skylar, a know-it-all blue jay who can cast illusions; and Gilbert, a hapless tree frog with the ability to see visions of the future in pools of water. See what happens when these three animal assistants -- typically relegated to the background or found sitting quietly on their wizard's shoulders -- go on a heroic adventure of their own!

The National Book Award finalist from the best-selling author of BECAUSE OF WINN-DIXIE - now in paperback Walking through the misty Florida woods one morning, twelve-year-old Rob Horton is stunned to encounter a tiger - a real-life, very large tiger - pacing back and forth in a cage. What’s more, on the same extraordinary day, he meets Sistine Bailey, a girl who shows her feelings as readily as Rob hides his. As they learn to trust each other, and ultimately, to be friends, Rob and Sistine prove that some things - like memories, and heartaches, and tigers - can’t be locked up forever.

Well there you have it! This week's books! All of these will help with at least 1 challenge :) Can't wait to start reading!

Review: I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have To Kill You

REVIEWING:

SUMMARY:
Cammie Morgan is a student at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, a fairly typical all-girls school-that is, if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE and the latest in chemical warfare in science, and students received extra credit for breaking CIA codes in computer class.  The Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses but it's really a school for spies. Even though Cammie is fluent in fourteen languages and capable of killing a man in seven different ways, she has no idea what to do when she meets an ordinary boy who thinks she's an ordinary girl.  Sure, she can tap his phone, hack into his computer, or track him through town with the skill of a real "pavement artist"-but can she maneuver a relationship with someone who can never know the truth about her?  Cammie Morgan may be an elite spy-in-training, but in her sophomore year, she's on her most dangerous mission: falling in love.

REVIEW:

I find it really cool that they have a spy school :)
I couldn't really get into the book at the beginning, but eventually I was glued to it. Finished it in an hour, then sat down to think about it. I'm sure people who have read this book have done the same!
I thought for sure that Cammie and Josh were love at first sight or almost. The missions were cool though! Having to follow someone, take their docter pepper bottle and run.
But I don't think Josh should have even been there. People aren't supposed to see Cammie..And yet, he did.
So she lied about having a different life, so what? A cat, a father that wasn't dead, a non-spy mother. A girl can dream right?
I always thought that the book would have been about the teacher AND her. Not her mother. But some things just surprise you. And I even saw it coming!
Towards the end, when Josh finds out, you would have thought they would have gotten back together, because Josh loves her. But he pulled an audible. Thinking that Cammie WAS being kidnapped and running to save her. It would take some guts, and love. But in the end, Cammie didn't take her chance, because Josh would die from it. And Josh didn't take it. I can't wait to read the next book!

Fall Into Reading Challenge!

This challenge is hosted by Callapidder Days every fall. For more information about this challenge or to sign-up, click on the link.

THE CHALLENGE: Make a list of books you want to start reading/finish this Fall. Post about it in your blog and start reading!

I could have made this list with HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of books I wanna read..But I don't think I'll be reading that many this fall. This are books that I will hopefully be reading this fall. I do realize that I am a little late posting this(whoops).

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:
What do you think is the biggest obstacle to your reading? What prevents you from reading as much as you’d like?

answer: Most would answer by saying, not enough time. That isn't the case with me. I read every chance I can. Which means, several times a day, for long periods of time. But, lately, I've been reading at certain times. In the morning and in the evening-night. Not wanting to miss anything that passes by.
So my answer to this question, would be, time or life. Having time to read -- but not enough for life.

What's your answer?

MY LIST:

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Mockingjay is the third and final book in The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. It was released in the US and Canada on August 24, 2010 and sold 450,000 copies in the first week.

Evermore by Alyson Noel
Since the car accident that claimed the lives of her family, sixteen year old Ever can see auras and hear people's thoughts, and she goes out of her way to hide from other people until she meets Damen, another psychic teenager who is hiding even more mysteries.
Wicked by Gregory Maguire

We meet the Wicked Witch of the West from "The Wizard of Oz" at the time of her birth, and learn about her family, her sister, her school chums, and other important figures in her early life, many of whom grow up to be secondary characters in the original "Oz" story. We learn why Elphaba, as she is named here, has green skin and why she should be viewed as a sympathetic, misunderstood champion for equal rights who faced and overcame repeated abuse and disillusionment. We learn about her aversion to water, and why Dorothy was a figure Elphaba was forced to loathe.
Leave your preconceptions at the door. They won't serve you here. This book is highly original and still remains a gripping story even if you've never seen or read "The Wizard of Oz." Wonderful and thought provoking, and should not be overlooked.

AUTHOR BIO: In addition to ttyl , Lauren Myracle is the author of three other novels, including her latest, Rhymes with Witches . Fallen by Lauren Kate

Some Angels are Destined to Fall
There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.
Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.
Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce–and goes out of his way to make that very clear–she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . .
even if it kills her.

P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern
A novel about holding on, letting go, and learning to love again. Now in paperback, the endearing novel that captured readers' hearts and introduced a fresh new voice in women's fiction -- Cecelia Ahern. Holly couldn't live without her husband Gerry, until the day she had to. They were the kind of young couple who could finish each other's sentences. When Gerry succumbs to a terminal illness and dies, 30-year-old Holly is set adrift, unable to pick up the pieces. But with the help of a series of letters her husband left her before he died and a little nudging from an eccentric assortment of family and friends, she learns to laugh, overcome her fears, and discover a world she never knew existed. The kind of enchanting novel with cross-generational appeal that comes along once in a great while, PS, I Love You is a captivating love letter to the world!

The Sky Is Every Where by Jandy Nelson
Seventeen-year-old Lennie Walker, bookworm and band geek, plays second clarinet and spends her time tucked safely and happily in the shadow of her fiery older sister, Bailey. But when Bailey dies abruptly, Lennie is catapulted to center stage of her own life—and, despite her nonexistent history with boys, suddenly finds herself struggling to balance two. Toby was Bailey’s boyfriend; his grief mirrors Lennie’s own. Joe is the new boy in town, a transplant from Paris whose nearly magical grin is matched only by his musical talent. For Lennie, they’re the sun and the moon; one boy takes her out of her sorrow, the other comforts her in it. But just like their celestial counterparts, they can’t collide without the whole wide world exploding. This remarkable debut is perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen, Deb Caletti, and Francesca Lia Block. Just as much a celebration of love as it is a portrait of loss, Lennie’s struggle to sort her own melody out of the noise around her is always honest, often hilarious, and ultimately unforgettable.

Stardust by Neil Gaiman
In the sleepy English countryside at the dawn of the Victorian Era, life moves at a leisurely pace in the tiny town of Wall--a secluded hamlet so named for an imposing stone barrier that surrounds a fertile grassland. Armed sentries guard the sole gap in the bulwark to keep the inquisitive from wandering through, relaxing their vigil only once every nine years, when a market fair unlike any other in the world of men comes to the meadow. Here in Wall, young Tristran Thorn has lost his heart to beautiful Victoria Forester. But Victoria is cold and distant--as distant, in fact, as the star she and Tristran see fall from the sky on a crisp October evening. For the coveted prize of Victoria's hand, Tristran vows to retrieve the fallen star and deliver it to his beloved. It is an oath that sends the lovelorn swain over the ancient wall, and propels him into a world that is strange beyond imagining. But Tristran is not the only one seeking the heavenly jewel. There are those for whom it promises youth and beauty, the key to a kingdom, and the rejuvenation of dark, dormant magics. And a lad compelled by love will have to keep his wits about him to succeed and survive in this secret place where fallen stars come in many guises--and where quests have a way of branching off in unexpected directions, even turning back upon themselves in space and in time. Neil Gaiman works his unique literary magic in new and dazzling ways in Stardust, a novel that will shine in the heart and memory far beyond the turning of its final page.

Title: Romeo and Juliet
Author: William Shakespeare

SUMMARY:
We meet our hero, Romeo, after a duel between the servants of two enemy families of Verona: the Montagues and the Capulets. Romeo Montague is pining away for Rosaline, a girl we never see. Juliet Capulet, age thirteen, has just heard that Paris, Verona's attractive young bachelor, would like to marry her. The two will meet that night at a masquerade ball at the Capulets' house. Romeo and his friends have decided to crash the Capulet ball – in costume – because Rosaline is on the guest list. Romeo meets Juliet there instead, and they fall madly in love. Afterwards, they discover they are members of rival families, but they are still in love. Romeo stays after the party under Juliet's balcony, and the two use this romantic meeting to plan their marriage. Hasty, but genuine.

This is where things get sticky. Romeo meets with Friar Laurence to arrange the marriage, and Juliet confides in her nurse, who has basically raised her, to act on her behalf and meet Romeo. The Nurse meets Romeo and his friend Mercutio (who thinks the whole situation is hilarious). Romeo tells her to get Juliet to Friar Laurence's, where the two will be married.

Meanwhile, Benvolio, another member of the Montague posse, runs into Tybalt Capulet, who is angry about the Montagues crashing his family party the other night. Romeo, freshly married, strolls into the middle of a tense situation, and as things escalate, Tybalt kills Mercutio. Stricken by grief, Romeo promptly challenges Tybalt to a duel and kills him. Romeo runs away before all of Verona shows up. The Prince of Verona rules that Romeo won't be killed, but banished from Verona. This all puts a damper on the new marriage.

Juliet hears from the Nurse that her new husband has murdered her cousin. She is doubly sad about the death and murder. Mostly Juliet just wants to see her banished husband. The Nurse finds Romeo hiding at Friar Laurence's, and the Friar hatches a plan. Romeo can spend his wedding night with Juliet, but then he must run away, while the Friar finds some way to get the Prince of Verona to pardon Romeo. The marriage will be made public upon his return.

Meanwhile, back at the Capulet house, Paris is working even harder to wed Juliet, who is stricken by grief. Lord Capulet decides a wedding (to Paris) is just the thing to distract her, as he does not know she's already a bride. Juliet spends her wedding night with Romeo, and as he leaves in the morning, she finds out she is to be married to Paris in two days. She refuses and has a violent fight with her parents. Even her nurse thinks she should marry Paris, since Romeo is "as good as dead" to her.

Juliet, trying to figure out what to do, runs over to Friar Laurence's, where she has a weird kiss with Paris. After Paris leaves, she threatens to kill herself. The Friar adds another bit to his plan, and gives her an herbal concoction that will make her appear to be dead for 42 hours. Yes, exactly 42. She goes home, agrees to marry Paris, and takes the poison with the intention of looking dead on the morning of her wedding and being taken to the Capulet tomb where Romeo can find her and everyone can live happily ever after.

Sadly, Romeo is hiding in Mantua, out of the loop, and the news of Juliet's "death" makes it to Romeo before word of the Friar's plan. He buys some poison so he can go to Juliet's grave and kill himself. At her grave, he finds Paris, whom he murders, and then breaks into Juliet's tomb, where he spends some time with Juliet's "dead" body.

He drinks the poison and dies just in time for Juliet to wake up and find him dead. The Friar, who apparently shows up at some point, also finds Romeo dead, and tries to convince Juliet to run away. She refuses (she's been doing a lot of that lately) and kisses Romeo (a lot of that, too) to find that his lips are still warm – she just missed him. He doesn't have enough poison on his lips to kill her, too, so she takes her own life with a dagger. Capulets, Montagues, and the Prince of Verona show up to the tomb and find the dead lovers. Friar Laurence is dragged in to confess everything. The two lords of the rival houses are moved by their dead children's love story and agree to end the feud.

What do you think of the book?
"I think it was great. It was the first Shakespeare book I've read. It was really amazing though. I own a copy, myself. Well 2 actually :) I give the book 5 stars and the cover 5 stars as well!"

TITLE: Chasing Redbird
AUTHOR: Sharon Creech
Pages: 261
Chapters: 46
SUMMARY:
Thirteen-year-old Zinnia (Zinny) Taylor lives in Bybanks, Kentucky, with too many brothers and sisters, and nothing to call her own. Quiet and shy, Zinny is dwarfed by her large family and the achievements and beauty of her older sisters in particular. Her family shares their house with her Uncle Nate and Aunt “Redbird”, whose deceased daughter Ruth was Zinny's best friend in young childhood, and whom quiet Zinny is closer to than her own parents.

When Zinny discovers an overgrown trail of slate that begins on her family farm, and stretches into the forest, she begins to uncover it, hoping to claim it as her own – one thing that will make her special and unique, and that she won't have to share. After the death of her Aunt, uncovering the trail becomes an all-consuming project, leading Zinny to camp out in the forest, miles from home, as she attempts to reach it's end, and also to uncover the mystery of her Uncle Nate's seeming slide into delusions about his dead wife.

What do you think about the book?
"Amazing. Before, I wouldn't have ever looked at the book twice. Now, I'm glad I did. It's amazing how she finally gets something of her own. I'd feel really sad if I didn't have anything to call my own. Now, she gets everything she ever wanted. A trail, publicly, Jake, and something to call her own.
I'd give this book 5 stars for the actually book it's self and 4 stars for the cover.

Review: Dovey Coe

One of this week's books was Dovey Coe. I finished reading it last night, since I was addicted to the story.

Title: Dovey Coe
Author: Frances O'Roark Dowell
Publisher: Aladdin Paperbooks
Published: 2000
Pages: 181
Chapters: 17
Reading Level: YA
"My name is Dovey Coe and I reckon it don't matter if you like me or not. I'm here to lay the record straight, to let you know them folks saying I done a terrible thing are liars. I aim to prove it too. I hated Parnell Caraway as much as the next person, but I didn't kill him."

Dovey Coe says what's on her mind, so it's no secret that she can't stand Parnell Caraway. Parnell may be the son of the richest man in town, but he's mean and snobby, and Dovey can't stand the fact that he's courting her sister, Caroline, or the way he treats her brother, Amos, as if he was stupid just because he can't hear.
So when Parnell turns up dead, and Dovey's in the room where his body is discovered, she soon finds herself on trial for murder. Can the outspoken Dovey sit still and trust the city slicker lawyer who's still wet behind the cars to get her out of the biggest mess of her life?

 Review:
I thought it was amazing. You really feel like Dovey Coe in the book. It's sad to think about, but that makes this book all the better!
I can relate to Dovey. I don't act like a lady myself, I'm usually outside running around and making messes. I just hope I'm not put on trial for murder..
I love Amos, I don't know why, maybe it was because he saved Dovey or because I envy why he doesn't really say anything. I mean, he's deaf and hasn't heard a sound from anything or anyone since he was born, kind of crazy, right?
Caroline is really pretty, I get that. I was appalled when Parnell proposed and  she practically yelled no at him. It was a nice touch.
Parnell is a troubled boy. He gets what he wants and could have anybody, and he knows it. But there's one thing he can't have -- Caroline. And usually someone with that kind of power would be able to, but Parnell doesn't give up on the night he proposes and Caroline says no. His heart turned even colder from that. That's why he killed Tom, I bet. Mostly to get back at Dovey, saying she can't always watch out for Amos and his dogs.
But Amos saves the day. Sure, sure, Tom may have died, but he still has Huck, and Dovey and the rest of his family.

The book is heart-warming and mysterious. My type of book.

Book vs. Movie!

This week's Book vs Movie is...
.
.
.
Holes!

This story is very popular and always has great reviews and ratings from others. I personally love the books and the movie. So I thought it would make a great book/movie for Book vs Movie day!

Summary:
Stanley Yelnats is always in the wrong place at the wrong time. He has only one person to blame, his no good, pig-stealing, great, great grandfather.
His bad luck dogs him into getting arrested for so called "stealing" a famous baseball player's shoes from a homeless shelter auction.
He is sent off to Camp Green Lake, a place where it never rains, to dig 1 hole every day.
Why, you ask?
Find out in the book or movie today!

....Comparing...

Movie:
The movie is great, but it could have been better. I love what characters they picked to play each one. Especially Stanley and Zero. I'll give this one a 4 star rating.

....Comparing...

Book:
I think a lot of people would agree that in general, books are usually better than the movie. I've read Holes 5 times and maybe watched the movie more, because of my mom(one of her favorite movies). And I've done a book report on Holes. If I had to say which one would be better, it would definitely be Holes. I give it a 5 star rating.

So there you have it! I think the book is better. If you look to your right, you'll see 2 polls, What's Your Holes(movie) Rating? and What's Your Holes(book) Rating?
Please make sure to vote to see what you guys think about this!

The poll will go until next week(Monday) when I will release a new Book vs. Movie.

Thanks for reading and keep doing things busy and exciting!

Books!

Book Blogger Hop
Grab the Logo!

In the spirit of the Twitter Friday Follow, the Book Blogger Hop is a place just for book bloggers and readers to connect and share our love of the written word!  This weekly BOOK PARTY is an awesome opportunity for book bloggers to connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books!  It will also give blog readers a chance to find other book blogs to read!  So, grab the logo, post about the Hop on your blog, and start HOPPING through the list of blogs that are posted in the Linky list below!!

The Hop lasts Friday-Monday every week, so if you don't have time to Hop today, come back later and join the fun!  This is a weekly event!  And stop back throughout the weekend to see all the new blogs that are added!

RULES:
Your blog should have content related to books, including, but not limited to book reviews.

1.  Enter your book blog link in the Linky List below
In your link, please state the main genre that you review:  eclectic, contemp. fiction, ya, paranormal, mystery, non-fiction, etc.  Please do not list every genre you review - if you are review a variety, please put eclectic!  The Hop gets jumbled up if the title is too long, so please limit to one genre.  I will be limiting the number of characters in the title to ensure the Hop doesn't look messy!  Thank you!

Example:  24/7 Everything (eclectic)

NOTE:   You no longer have to enter the length of time you've been blogging, but do let us know if this is your first time hopping with us!

2. Post about the Hop on your blog.  Spread the word about the book party!  The more the merrier!  In your blog post, answer the following question (new question each week!).  If you have a suggestion for a future HOP question, click here to fill out the form!  Thanks!

In honor of Book Blogger Appreciation Week, let's take time this week to honor our favorite book bloggers and why we love them!

My answer: There are way too many to list! I'd like to say Crazy For Books(click on the icon to go to there blog) is my absolute favorite! Always has blog reviews/ratings, funny crazy things and great giveaways!

3.  Visit other blogs in the Linky List!  Make new friends!  Follow new book bloggers!  Talk about books!  Rave about authors!  Take the time to make a quality visit!  Check out other posts and content, make a new friend!  Don't randomly follow someone if you never intend on actually following them!  No spamming please!  (Please do not leave your link and not visit other blogs - it's just not cool and not in the spirit of the Hop!)

And just as an FYI - this event is not something you should feel that you have to participate in every week.  If you want to join in and link up once a month, GREAT!  It's up to you how often you participate!

So, have fun HOPPING and enjoy your BOOK PARTY weekend!!!
