Review: The Short Second Life Of Bree Tanner

Title: The Short Second Life Of Bree Tanner
Author: Stephanie Meyer
Source: Library
Date Finished: January 6th, 2011

Summary of Book:
Fans of The Twilight Saga will be enthralled by this riveting story of Bree Tanner, a character first introduced in Eclipse, and the darker side of the newborn vampire world she inhabits. In another irresistible combination of danger, mystery, and romance, Stephenie Meyer tells the devastating story of Bree and the newborn army as they prepare to close in on Bella Swan and the Cullens, following their encounter to its unforgettable conclusion.

Review(Blood and gore + spoilers involved):
We all know what happens to Bree. It's no surprise to me that in the end, Bree died. We all saw it coming. But I like Meyer's new point of view. Instead of being Bella with no bloodlust, I was Bree with a ton of it. I wanted to rip out someone's throat, but I also wanted to control myself.
I'm not surprised that Bree just handed over her life. I mean, she lost everyone and everything. Her family, her "boyfriend", all her friends, they were gone. So why not hand over your life? Everything's gone.
I liked the new characters. And all the other newborns. How Bree was curious about Riley and she. Otherwise known as Victoria.
I seriously considered giving up on the book though. It was a really good book, but I just don't know how I would handle the ending.
I manged to finish it though. And the ending was better put than I thought it would be.
"Close your eyes."

  1. I read this last year and I loved it!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Even though you already knew what was going to happen, I thought it was cool to see it from a baby vamp's eyes instead of a human who just loves vamps. :)

    Happy Reading!

  3. I've got this one on my shelf and I'm still not sure if I really want to read. I think I'm a little overdosed with Twilight, but if it's enjoyable to an extent... I take it that it doesn't have a lot of lovie dovie stuff in it?

  4. @Dutchie - There's hardly any lovie dovie stuff in it ;) It was actually pretty good to read from a blood thirsty vampire. OK, that sounded weird..Anyway..Happy Reading, Dutchie!

  5. My favorite thing about this book was seeing more of Stephenie's mythology. It's so unique from traditional vampires. In some ways it's a lot darker. The plot was rather silly, but I really thought there was a lot of good world building info in the book.

  6. @Alison - I, as well, think so. It's not better than the Twilight saga, but it's right in the neighborhood :D
